Cairn Alert!

You can catch Cairns on Colorado Hiking Trails.

A cairn is a human-made stack or pile of rocks used as a marker or sign. In Colorado, you see them on trails where they typically mark an ambiguous section, letting fellow hikers know which way to go. Scottish Gaelic in origin, prehistoric cairns were often raised as memorials and burial monuments. This one was recently spotted on the island of Puerto Rico and we think it means “this way to the sea,” in case you’re prone to overlooking the obvious.

The Monarch Mountain No Name Expansion is an exciting development project that will enhance the ski area’s offerings by adding 377 acres of new terrain and 10-12 new named runs. The terrain will feature 1,000 vertical feet with a variety of options for skiers and riders, including intermediate and advanced trails with groomed, bump, and gladed sections. This expansion aims to provide 50% more skiable acres accessible from the Breezeway or Panorama Lifts.
