Day of the Dead, Salida-Style
Salida’s Dia de Los Muertos procession ended at the F street bridge where folks were invited to throw ashes and flower petals into the river in memory of their loved ones.

Wildflowers in Colorado!
The end of their life is when you can harvest their seeds, but hold off planting them until early spring (or as late as midsummer). If you have a lawn in Colorado, please consider letting it die and replacing it with these beauties that require almost no water, and they keep the local bees healthy and happy!
Moth Storytelling in Salida, CO!
Live story slam this weekend in lil ole S-Town!! That’s right, the folks over at A Church are bringing a taste of east coast storytelling to our beloved mountain town of Salida, CO.
The event is one of many such storytelling events spinning out of New York City based nonprofit, the Moth, which was founded in 1997 by poet and novelist George Dawes Green.
Fall colors in Salida and thereabouts…
Aspens up high are just starting to turn and should peak this weekend-ish. In the meantime, enjoy the gorgeous yellow blossoming of the chamisa, also known as gray rabbitbrush. Just love how it makes this graffiti along the South Ark pop!
Cold plunge, anyone?
The waters of the Arkansas River are warmer now than they’re likely to be all year long. But still cold enough to be super refreshing. We strongly recommend the cold plunge on a hot afternoon.
Labor Day Weekend in Riverside Park this Sunday
Salida’s Hometown Picnic in the Park returns to Riverside Park Sunday from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. and will feature free, live music including the CMC Jazz Band at 2:00 p.m., the San Luis Valley Big Band at 4:00 p.m. and 6 Volt Rodeo at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverside Park Bandshell.

Local Art, History, and Recreation abound in and around Fort Garland, Colorado
Just 80 miles southeast of Salida is the sweet little town of Fort Garland, Colorado. The old army fort has been converted into a museum that offers eye-opening exhibits on local history and art. You can read about it in the August issue of Colorado Central Magazine.
