If you’re out riding or hiking the trails of central Colorado in the next several days, you’re likely to see these gorgeous blossoms on the Kingcup cactus, also called the claret cup cactus. Get out there because these blossoms go by quickly, typically only lasting a couple of weeks at most. The ones I’ve seen in bloom around here are deep scarlet, but the colors can vary pretty widely dependent on soil type. Oh, and guess what: the fruits are edible! Just be careful getting to them.
